Metaverse Part III : Somnium Space

We meet today for the third and last part of our exploration of the Metaverse, today we will talk about Somnium Space, the last of the virtual worlds born on the blockchain, yet its possibilities and its content have nothing to envy at The Sandbox or Decentraland.

Somnium Space: VR at the time of the Metaverse

Somnium Space is a virtual world, open to the public since February 2020, it can be played on a browser, or from your smartphone, but you must, to take advantage of all its features, download the Somnium Space launcher.
Somnium Space is one of the most recent blockchain-based virtual worlds, but also one of the most successful.

The possibility of playing with a computer, a smartphone or with a virtual reality headset, takes this “game” to another dimension, you are no longer a person who plays in a non-real world, here you live the experience of virtual with your senses, which has the advantage of making it much more real than a simple video game.

Did VR experience brings something special for this type of game ?

Clearly, YES!
The Metavers, as explained in part 1 of our review of virtual worlds, are places that encourage living experiences, meeting, testing new things.

You are more than a simple spectator, so when you will participate in your first festival on Somnium Space you will have the impression of having lived a real event, the return to reality being felt by your body as a tearing away from this new virtual world.

Unlike the majority of multiplayer VR games, where players are divided into sub-servers, Somnium Space hosts all of its players in a single world. The advantage? A truly immersive feeling for its users.

Imagine standing on top of the tallest tower inside a virtual world looking down to see hundreds of users exploring the world in real time.
As in Decentraland and The Sandbox players can purchase virtual land and build various experiences.

A nightclub, a museum, a 70-storey high tower; the possibilities are truly endless, as are the rewards for the most active user.

Land prices depend on various factors within the virtual world.
Location, proximity to others, and transport links (teleporters) all play their part. Just like in the real world if you want to have an ocean view and a lot of space the price will be higher.

An autonomous VR headset created by Somnium Space?

Somnium goes beyond the simple virtual interface, and has just presented its next project, a stand-alone VR headset created especially for the game. This helmet will be built in collaboration with VRgineers.

This device aims to conquer a new type of customers, who no longer want to be confined to a single platform, nor to the restrictions put in place by certain VR devices. It will therefore be an Open-Source VR headset that will allow the community to develop the product and even be programmed and adapted to specific needs if necessary.

Below is an official image of Somnium Space with the technical characteristics of the Somnium VR headset.

The CUBE token.

Like its counterparts, Somnium Space is no exception to the rule and operates thanks to its own token, the CUBE.

A brief overview of CUBE's tokenomics:

CUBE Price: $ 8.72
Number of tokens in circulation: 100,000,000
Market Cap: $ 814,814,181
Monthly number of players: 1000

Our overview of the different virtual worlds ends with this third and final part.
The industry around the metaverse is booming and we felt that a tour of the different experiences available would help our community to see more clearly.

Do not hesitate to read our last article on Decentraland as well as on The Sandbox if you ever missed it.
